Stars fired up for campaign

AFTER rounding up their pre-season training at the weekend, Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson believes his charges are ready for a major assault on the SA Premiership.

Dikwena start their 2012-2013 league campaign with a home match against Moroka Swallows at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng on Sunday at 3pm.

Johnson is happy that the team's pre-season training went according to plan, especially considering they have roped in 12 new players to beef up the squad.

The new players include Benson Mhlongo, Siphelele Mthembu, Mogakolodi Ngele, Luvolwethu Mpeta, Rofhiwa Tshikovhi and Patrick Malokase.

Stars wrapped up their preparations with a resounding 3-0 victory over Bay United and a goalless draw with Black Leopards in Phokeng on Saturday.

"We mean business this season. The days of Stars fighting for survival are over," said Johnson, who was instrumental in the development of players such as Steven Pienaar, Brett Evans and Masilo Modubi at the School of Excellence.

"We will be challenging for all the PSL trophies, starting with the league on Sunday. I had a long chat with my players, explaining to them how important it was for us as a team to do well. I told them we need to work together as players, technical and support staff, management as well as the fans for the success of Dikwena.

"We are going to analyse all the matches together to identify and eliminate mistakes as a way forward.

"First impressions last. The plan is to start the season with a bang by winning the match against Swallows," Johnson said.

Stars's publicist and supporters' coordinator Aubrey Molobi said tickets for the game will go on sale from tomorrow at Tlhabane Foro Spar, Lucky's Pub in Phokeng and Mickey Geo Restaurant in Rustenburg.

"We will also be selling them on the day of the game at the stadium at R40 for adults and R20 for children under the age of 12," Molobi said.
