Tinkler, Makhanya step in for de Sa

FORMER Bafana Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler and Ashley Makhanya have been appointed interim coaches of Bidvest Wits following the sacking of Roger de Sa.

A statement from the club did not reveal why De Sa had "parted ways" with the club, but club general manager George Mogotsi said more information would be provided before the end of the week.

With the management of the Clever Boys making changes to the team ahead of the new season, De Sa was still seen as the man to lead the influx of new players at the club.

But all this has changed as the search for a new technical team has already begun.

Wits have already signed Matthew Pattison (a free agent), and Tinashe Nengomasha, Tlou Molekwane and Thomas Sweswe from Kaizer Chiefs.

Former Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena is believed to be their next target.

Wits finished 12th last season, a time during which De Sa had to double up as club chief executive.

Yesterday the club announced that De Sa's contract would be terminated "with immediate effect".

"BidVest Wits would like to take this opportunity of thanking Roger de Sa for the many years of dedicated service to this club and wish him the very best in his future endeavours," the club said.

De Sa has had an on-and-off relationship with the Clever Boys before, having enjoyed his first spell with the side between 2001 and 2005.

He failed to save them from the relegation axe in 2005 and vacated the position of head coach to take up a similar role at Santos.

De Sa returned two years later and was at the helm when Wits won the 2010 Nedbank Cup, beating AmaZulu 3-0 at the opening of Soccer City, which was to host the first match of the World Cup in South Africa.

Jose Ferreira was recently appointed CEO of Wits, a position he held at SuperSport United.
