Jerome can resurrect his career

SUSPERSPORT United have handed Botswana international Jerome Ramatlhakwane's ailing career a lifeline by agreeing to take him on trial over the next weeks.

It is a boost for a player who seemed to have the world at his feet 12 months ago but has not had any firm offers since his spell at Cape Town club Santos came to an end. Not even exposure on the Africa Cup of Nations stage in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea earlier in the year elicited an offer, even though he was the joint top scorer in qualifying.

Ramatlhakwane has been a free agent since ending a messy, and protracted, contract dispute with Santos but he has not played in any league matches since he made four starts for Vasco da Gama in a loan spell at the end of the 2010-11 Premier Soccer League season.

It had been hoped he might be able to catch the eye of scouts at the Nations Cup but he failed to score in any of Botswana's three group games. An offer of a trial at an Israeli club did not come off because it clashed with the Nations Cup and subsequent interest from Ukraine and Vietnam did not translate into any firm offers, according to his agent Mickey Paiva.

"Jerome is hoping now to be able to make a good impression at SuperSport," he said.
