Sebokeng karate hub

A BIG karate tournament, which will attract fighters from Swaziland and Botswana, is scheduled to take place in Sebokeng on Easter Saturday.

Organised by the International Karate Organisation Matsushima style, the event will take place at Saul Tsotetsi Hall in Zone 14.

Matsushima style media and communications manager Shihan Peter "Poison" Thage said this will be the first time they will hold a national tournament in Sebokeng.

"We are so excited to be going to Sebokeng, a township which is renowned to have produced great sportsmen and women, politicians, business people and educationists. Karate used to be one of the most popular sporting codes in South Africa in the past, we are embarking on a project to revive it," he said.

Thage said the weigh-in will take place on Friday and that women will compete in three divisions - Under-60, Under-70 and open. Men will participate in the U-60, U-70, U-80 and open divisions.
