SOWETO golf star Musi Nethunzwi will make his international debut for South Africa next month along with another newcomer, Gert Myburgh of Benoni.

The pair will join Brandon Stone, Haydn Porteous, Shaun Smith, Zander Lombard, Drikus Bruyns and CJ du Plessis as South Africa defend their Africa Zone VI title at the Lilongwe Golf Club in Malawi on April 17 and 18.

South Africa beat Kenya for the title last year. Du Plessis is the only remaining member of the team from last year's triumph.

Also competing at the tournament will be teams from Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia and possibly Mauritius and Rwanda.

SA golf chief Colin Burger said Nethunzwi and Myburgh deserved selection because of a good season this year and last year.

Nethunzwi was part of the Central Gauteng team that won the SA interprovincial title last year.

"He has had an incredible run of form this season, including victory in the Free State and Northern Cape Open, where he held off Gert and Zander," said Burger of the 21-year-old Soweto star.

Myburgh was sixth in the South African amateur strokeplay.
