Egyptian FA resigns after killer game

CAIRO - The president of the Egyptian Football Association and his board of directors resigned on Saturday having already been fired by the country's prime minister after the riot at a game that left more than 70 people dead.

EFA president Samir Zaher was also reportedly banned from leaving Egypt pending an investigation into the country's worst incident of football-related violence.

Zaher and his board said they had "collectively resigned" in a statement.

They were fired by Egypt Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri on Thursday after the deadly stadium clashes in a move that could have been seen as government interference, which is not allowed by world football body Fifa.

Saturday's decision to resign will likely be accepted by Fifa.
