Pirates are becoming cup competition specialists, having reached a fifth consecutive final in just over a year

THE Telkom Knockout final on December 10 will feature two teams that are currently smashing Premier League records.

Orlando Pirates will take on Wits in a cup final for the first time since 1995, a year in which the Clever Boys won the double.

Wits qualified for the final after hammering Santos 3-0 yesterday.

The venue for the clash is yet to be decided, but both Pirates and Wits are having a tough time in the league, though their cup performance justifies their meeting in two weeks time.

The spotlight is on Ryan Chapman this season, and so far, he has not failed to deliver.

The former Santos first set up Wits teammate Asive Langwe for the opener on the 53rd minute before putting his name on the scoresheet in the 62nd minute.

That seemed to be enough to send Wits to their second cup final in two seasons. But Jomo Vilakazi came off the bench to put matters beyond doubt by scoring a third in the 90th minute.

Pirates are also becoming cup competition specialists, having reached a fifth consecutive final in just over a year.

They booked their spot in the final by beating Golden Arrows 3-1 on Saturday night at the Moses Mabhida stadium.

The Clever Boys have the psychological advantage over the Buccaneers after they thrashed them 3-1 in a Premier League match nine days ago. Chapman got two goals in that match.

So, the gloves are off.

Yesterday, it was all Wits in the first half, with Santos their usual tame self in attack.

Lehlogonolo Masalesa got the Clever Boys started when he received a pass from Chapman outside the box, but his shot flew past the goal post with Santos keeper Tshepo Motsoeneng of was well beaten.

Motsoeneng was again in the firing line when Wits skipper Sifiso Myeni's shot came off the woodwork in the 21st minutes.

Santos' only clear chance in the game came in the 28th minute when striker Jonathan Armogam found space after beating the offside trap but his lob beat both keeper Energy Murambadoro and the posts.
