PE to host Mandela soccer Challenge

THE South African Football Association is today expected to announce Port Elizabeth as the host city for the 2011 Nelson Mandela Challenge.

The city saw off competition from Cape Town for the rights to host the game between Bafana Bafana and Ivory Coast on November 12.

Safa met with the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund this week, and will announce Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium as the venue for the 17th edition of the Challenge.

The match traditionally attracts the world's top sides and huge interests from local fans.

Bafana lost 1-0 to USA in Cape Town last year, in what was Pitso Mosimane's first loss as Bafana head coach.

It will be the first time the annual Challenge is played at the coastal city and it would be the third big match there so far this year after the Vodacom Challenge Soweto derby in July and the Springboks' Tri-Nations test against the All Blacks last month.
