Chiefs can dream on - Jackson

KAIZER Chiefs' dream of achieving a historic record of winning the Telkom Knockout for a third successive season will remain just that ... a pipe dream.

This is according to Platinum Stars' assistant coach Willem Jackson ahead of their clash against Amakhosi at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.

Kickoff is at 3pm.

"The Telkom Knockout is very close to my heart as it is the last tournament we won in 2005-06 season when I was still a player," said the former Bafana Bafana defender.

"We are playing at home where we have never lost a game this season, and we want to maintain that record and also qualify for the next round of the tournament.

"We want to win this tournament as an early Christmas present for our fans and the people of North West in general," said Jackson, who also played for Bloemfontein Celtic and Orlando Pirates.

His counterpart at Chiefs, Donald "Ace" Khuse, said: "We always do well in this tournament and our supporters expect us to bring it to Naturena ... and we don't want to disappoint them.

"Chiefs are always under pressure to win going into any match, be it a league, competition or friendly, and the situation is the same for the Sunday match.

"Our aim is to win this tournament for a record third successive season, but I must say that it will be a hell of a tough match."

Chiefs were dealt a major blow yesterday after right-back Tlou "Spanner" Molekwane fractured his leg at training and will be out of action for six weeks.

Molekwane's injury could see the return of Jimmy Tau, who will have to keep a close eye on Thuso Phala.

  • In another match, Ajax Cape Town take on Free State Stars at Athlone Stadium (3pm), also on Sunday.
