Soccer fan strikes it lucky

TUMOETSILE Mogamisi of Milnerton in Cape Town hit the R1 million jackpot after being named the 2011 Wafa Wafa Last Fan Standing.

In addition, Mogamisi will also travel around the world to watch eight top soccer derbies, including "El Clasico" featuring Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain.

The Last Fan Standing is a competition introduced by the MTN mobile phone company in 2009 to recognise the contribution of the fans. Mogamisi entered by dialling the competition line and then recharging with a R10 MTN voucher.

"I'm so excited, really I have no words to express my joy," said an emotional Mogamisi.

"I can't wait to tour the countries and watch other football derbies."

The inaugural winner was Soshanguve's Thulani Ngcobo who won the ultimate prize to watch all 38 2010 Fifa World Cup matches and set a new Guinness World Record in the process for the most World Cup matches attended by a football fan.

The 2010 Last Fan Standing, Malose Kutumela, won an eight-day all-expenses- paid trip to watch Manchester United in Europe.

"MTN8 is about the fans, the passion and love for the beautiful game," said Desiree Pooe, the sponsors' senior manager of sponsorship and events. "We would like also like to thank the hundreds and thousands of fans that entered the MTN8 Last Fan Standing competition.

"We look forward to yet another breathtaking Wafa Wafa tournament in 2012."
