Milenkovic loses IBF purse bid

PROMOTER Branco Milenkovic is bemoaning the loss of the purse bid for the vacant IBF junior welterweight title fight between No1 ranked Kaizer Mabuza and No2 Zab Judah to Main Events.

"Sometimes you need God to be on your side in order to prosper in things that you do," the Branco Sports Promotions boss said yesterday. "I was not able to send my bid by the post as required by the IBF because New York, where IBF offices are, was cut off from the rest of the world due to storms the past weeks.

"We asked the IBF if we could send our bid via electronic transfer and they agreed but Main Events objected.

"Main Events' bid was $50000 (R400000) while mine was $104000 (R700000)," Milenkovic added.

But he was happy that the IBF board voted in favour of a 50/50 split in the purse money instead of 70/30 as requested by Judah.

Kathy Duva, Main Events CEO, announced that the fight will take place at Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, in late February or early March.
