Designer tips on what to wear to the Sun Met

With one of the first big races of the year on the cards this weekend, The SunMet celebrated with G.H Mumm, is sure to bring together show stopping glamour in a celebration of elegance, grandeur and sophistication.

This year’s event is themed “decades of glamour” and designer Malcolm Kluk from KLUK CGDT gives us the do’s and don’ts for one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year.

Be inspired

For a glamorous, theme appropriate dress, pick a decade in fashion that you love, be inspired by the details and the decadence of the time and use it to build your contemporary Met look. “Think, drop waist flapper dresses from the twenties, floral tea dresses from the 30's, fitted suits from the 40's”.

Stay cool

The Met calls for a knee length cocktail dress, to keep you cool with an air of sophistication. Add a touch of red to make a daring statement.

Style it up

The races are your chance to show off your true style and flaunt your favourite accessories. Complete your look with the perfect shoes, hat and sunglasses. Try block heels or flatforms, they’re not only trendy and comfortable, but grass friendly.

The no-no’s

Avoid being a fashion victim by leaving the feather boas and fancy dress props at home. Consider your look as a homage to a style of the past by giving it a modern twist, without the unnecessary feathers and sequins.

Get ready to flaunt your best with SA’s finest and GH.Mumm at the Sun Met on 28 January 2017 at Kenilworth Racecourse.
