Not cricket

THE eagerness of Sascoc regarding Caster Semenya and its lethargy as Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka attempts to "clean up" cricket show a hypocrisy that should never be countenanced.

It suspended Athletics SA chief Leonard Chuene and his board even when it seemed he was disabled to comment on Semenya's gender during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.

Yet they are still to raise a finger months after Cricket SA axed Nyoka after he had asked for a probe into an allegedly missing R68million and a dodgy R4,7million bonus paid to, among others, CSA chief executive Gerald Majola.

Only Nyoka's successful court challenge is keeping prospects of this pressing inquiry alive.

If Sascoc does not affirm that any doubt in the handling of the sporting purse requires urgent attention then woe unto Fikile Mbalula's - and ours - bid for world stardom.
