Hours later he was pulled over by police who arrested him early on Monday morning. He was slunk in jail and will now be charged with drunken driving.
Without presuming guilt on Mphela as he is still to be tried in court, it is always worrisome when a person of his standing finds himself on the wrong side of the law. This is because he is a role model and hero to millions of youth who would like to emulate his success one day.
Thus, the series of bad publicity recently generated by Mphela, with regard to this week's incident, not only sends a confusing signal to the youth.
