'Hands off the father of 90% local content', say Hlaudi Motsoeneng supporters

Supporters of embattled former SABC boss Hlaudi Motsoeneng have staged a protest outside the offices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.

Motsoeneng and the SABC are expected to have commenced with their closing arguments on why his dismissal should or should not be set aside.

Motsoeneng, who is seeking to be reinstated at the public broadcaster, has been asked to calm his supporters as they have blocked one of the entrances, making it difficult for those wanting to enter.

Motsoeneng was fired from his post on April 17 last year after a finding by the disciplinary committee‚ chaired by Nazeer Cassim SC. He was found guilty of bringing the broadcaster into disrepute following a media conference he had called.

During that conference‚ Motsoeneng defended his decision to introduce a 90 percent local music content quota across radio stations and criticised parliament’s ad hoc committee to enquire into the fitness of the SABC. He also insulted interim SABC board member Krish Naidoo.
