After spending the night in jail‚ members of several civic organisations‚ including activist Zackie Achmat‚ have been released.

The organisations‚ under the banner Unite Behind‚ staged a sit-in at the National Prosecution Authority's Cape Town offices on Wednesday‚ demanding President Jacob Zuma's arrest.

SA Communist Party Western Cape secretary Benson Ngqentsu was among the leaders who appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on trespassing charges on Thursday.

The protesters were warned to appear in court on December 5.

Jovial SACP members burst out in song after the court's pronouncement.

Unite Behind members have repeatedly called for Zuma to be axed by the ruling ANC.

In a statement issued on Wednesday‚ the movement spoke out about allegations that linked the president to a controversial businessman‚ who had allegedly paid Zuma a R1 million salary at one stage. The allegations are revealed in a new book titled The President's Keepers. A preview of the book was published this week in the Sunday Times.

"When we say #ArrestZuma we mean arrest the President and his keepers. When we say #ArrestUs‚ we mean that we will submit to arrest."
