Four wins in a row, the last a five-goal thrashing of Jomo Cosmos, have lifted Orlando Pirates' confidence to new heights, Bucs winger Luvuyo Memela said ahead of his team's Absa Premiership fixture against Bidvest Wits tonight.

Pirates meet second placed Wits, who need a win to keep in touch with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, at Bidvest Stadium (7.30pm) on the back of four league and cup victories .

The 5-0 hammering of Cosmos at Orlando Stadium on Saturday was the biggest winning margin for Eric Tinkler's men this season, eclipsing a 4-1 victory against Chippa United at Orlando in August. It took Pirates into the top six for the first time since the early weeks of the season.

"The confidence is getting there now," Memela said yesterday.

"The five goals against Cosmos motivated us, even though we could have scored six or seven. Our attackers have struggled at finishing and it was good for them to score goals."

The victory over Cosmos followed a 2-0 Nedbank Cup win against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium. Before that Bucs had beaten Mpumalanga Black Aces and Bloemfontein Celtic in the league, racking up 11 goals in their four victories.

For a team that at one stage sagged to as low as 12th in the PSL after a gruelling run to last year's CAF Confederation Cup final, the run of form will have come as a relief.

Bucs, though, will meet a determined Wits on the pristine Bidvest surface.

Gavin Hunt's team are seven points behind Sundowns, who face Bloemfontein Celtic in Atteridgeville.

"Wits will fight for the win," Memela said. "But we know what to do. When Wits step things up we need to increase our own tempo."

Tendai Ndoro has scored four goals in five games. He and centre-back Edwin Gyimah have brought an edge to Pirates' play coming into the team this year.

"Gyimah has brought a winning mentality into the team," Memela said. "He's a fighter. He'll push, even when the team is down, and that lifts us."

Wits have Daine Klate, their top scorer with seven goals, back from suspension. This brings some relief to a team blighted by injuries and illness.
