Fugitive cop hands himself over to colleagues

A Pretoria police constable who allegedly stabbed and sexually assaulted his wife handed himself over to the Mabopane police.

Police watchdog Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokeswoman Grace Langa said the 29-year-old arrived with his lawyer and called the investigator to come and arrest him.

"He waited for the investigator to arrive. He was charged with rape and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and attempted murder," Langa said.

Yesterday, Sowetan reported that the Mabopane-based officer took off on Sunday morning after allegedly attacking his wife, accusing her of cheating, from the Mabopane home belonging to the 28-year-old victim's late aunt.

According to Ipid, the constable allegedly returned from work in the evening and forced his wife's legs open before inserting his fingers into her vagina, claiming he was checking if she was sleeping with another man.

The constable allegedly "inserted his two fingers in the woman's private part and then said, 'look at what comes out of your private part, it means you slept with another man while I was at work'."

Langa said the police officer then assaulted his wife and stabbed her several times on her breasts and arm.

After the attack, the suspect allegedly called his friend to pick him up with his belongings.

He then vanished.
