ANC veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has filed papers in the Mthatha High Court to stop a meeting by the abaThembu royal family to resolve apparent infighting in the Mandela family, The New Age reported on Friday.

Madikizela-Mandela's lawyer Mvuzo Notyesi said papers had been filed and argument was expected to begin on Wednesday.

Madikizela-Mandela, the ex-wife of former president Nelson Mandela, is seeking an interdict ordering that the meeting not be held in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape, where it is due to take place next week.

Chief Daludumo Mtirara previously told the newspaper the meeting was to resolve and find a solution to preserve stability in Mandela's father's house.

The meeting was expected to resolve, among other issues, who would be appointed head of customs in the Mandela house.

In October, Madikizela-Mandela launched a court bid to obtain Mandela's Qunu home - which she has claimed belongs to her, but which he left to a trust in his will.
