HELP is on the way for the Mpumalanga teenage girl who has been taking care of her three siblings after the death of their mother in 2010.

Readers and bloggers from as far as the United Kingdom, who were touched by the story in the Sowetan last Friday, have offered to help.

They have offered to buy food, clothes, blankets and donate money, while others want to adopt some of the children.

Many said they admired the 17-year-old girl's courage. The teenager has been mothering her three siblings - aged five, 10 and 14 - since their mother died in October 2010.

The teenager of Mashonamini Trust, near Hazyview in Mpumalanga, said she did not know where their father is.

The two younger brothers got their birth certificates last Thursday through the help of Egame Kas' Letfu Community Development - a local non-governmental organisation made up of local artists and community members who are planning a fund-raising event on June 1.

"The proceeds will be used to buy food, clothes, blankets and other things for the children.

"We are in the process of getting electricity installed in their home," said the organisation's marketing officer Donald Malomane. - mashabas@sowetan.co.za
