"I cannot even say what attracted me to him, but he was very good with words"
A MAN was yesterday sentenced in the Johannesburg High Court to life in prison for killing his former girlfriend's son.
A life behind bars awaits Tshepo Molaolwa of Meadowlands, Soweto, who killed little Rehauhetswe Ramoitheki in August last year.
Molaolwa had been dating the child's mother, Victoria Ramoitheki, but became enraged when she left him.
He then went to Emelang Lower Primary School in Meadowlands and took Rehauhetswe, the eldest of Ramoitheki's two children, whom he then killed. He dumped his body in a ditch in Florida.
Ramoitheki was yesterday engulfed by bittersweet feelings of both sadness, sorrow and a happiness that "the monster" who took her son's life was condemned to life behind bars.
"The past few months have been very difficult for not only myself, but for my whole family," she said.
"Everyday we had to wake up with the realisation that Rehauhetswe is no longer with us and that was simply too hard to stomach."
In another situation, Ramoitheki would have been happy with the outcome and that she is - at least - left with one child, it is the opposite in her case.
"I am grateful to still have one child left in my life, but every time I look at him my heart breaks," she said.
"He reminds me so much of his brother and that really hurts me. Even worse is that he sometimes asks me about his brother."
Ramoitheki said initially everything was well between herself and Molaolwa, but she had noticed a change after a while.
"I cannot even say what attracted me to him, but he was very good with words," she said.
The physical assaults extended to the children and that was when Ramoitheki realised that she had had to leave.
"He beat all of us up and I realised that the situation was not safe for my children," she said.
"I left him and went to stay with my mother. However, he still managed to get to my son.
"I am glad though that justice has been served."
Molaolwa was jailed for life by Judge Ramarumo Monama.
