Terre'Blanche trial wraps up

The accused have pleaded not guilty. Mahlangu says he acted in self-defence while the minor has denied that he was part of the crime.

THE Eugene Terre'Blanche murder trial wrapped up yesterday.

Judgment will be delivered on May 22 after defence lawyers closed their arguments in the high court in Ventersdorp.

Chris Mahlangu and a minor, both employed by Terre'Blanche, are accused of hacking the rightwing AWB leader to death in his farmhouse on April 3 2010.

The accused have pleaded not guilty. Mahlangu says he acted in self-defence while the minor has denied that he was part of the crime.

The prosecution has insisted that both be found guilty of all charges.

Justice John Horn said everyone should brace themselves for a long judgement. He is expected to explainwhy he ruled that the evidence of the minor during a pointing out of the crime scene exercise and a statement he had given to the investigating officer were inadmissible.

Horn said he would also explain why he ruled that a statement by Mahlangu implicating the minor could not be used as evidence against the teenager.
