ET trial lawyer optimistic

ZOLA Majavu, the attorney for the minor accused of killing AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche, said yesterday that he was relieved that his work for the two- year long trial has finally come to an end.

In the case, Chris Mahlangu and the teen were charged with beating Terre'Blanche to death in his farmhouse outside Ventersdorp, North West, on April 3 2010.

Both have pleaded not guilty to murder, housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Closing arguments were presented this week and judgment is expected next month.

Majavu said he would give himself time off to write a book and maybe also do a documentary about the trial and tell the minor's story as a reflection of social ills like child labour in SA.

Majavu, who took up the minor's defence for free, said he hoped to secure an acquittal as the onus was on the police and prosecution to prove that the teen was involved in the crime.
