PUBLIC Protector Thuli Madonsela's daughter has thanked her brother for crashing their mother's state-issued BMW X6 because the incident has led to the use of a "much sexier car".

Wenzile Madonsela, whose social network Twitter name is @wenzi_madonsela, tweeted on Tuesday: "Thank u for @Wantu_Roths [her brother] for crashing the X6. the new car is too much sexier :D."

She later said she was joking.

Wantu, 23, smashed the black BMW into the garden wall of a house on Lucky Bean Crescent, near Moretele Park in Pretoria, on February 2.

Madonsela was quick to say that her son had reported the accident to the police and that he was licensed. She confirmed that he did not have permission to drive the car and apologised for the incident.

X6 prices range between R500,000 to R1-million.

Twitter users were ticked off by her boastful tweets.

@Phakz_ tweeted: "Less than a month after #Madonsela's boy crashed the state owned vehicle she's been given a new and sexier car. That's according to her kids."

While @NtoshToyin tweeted: "Madonsela's kids happy they crashed state car. Was it a conspiracy to get a new ride!"

But Wantu was quick to defend his sister. He said: "I'm very curious as to how my sister's 'joke' statement became a plural.

"I've said nothing about being happy I crashed."

Wenzile said @Phakz had a lot of time on his hands. She said this was "much ado about nothing".

@Phakz responded: "Ma'am, as a taxpayer I have a right to question irresponsible expenditure by the state, including the PP office."

Wenzile tweeted back: "well then you should write a letter to your government sir :) Would u rather have my mom travel in taxis while waiting 4 her car?

She wrote to @NtoshToyin: "Would you prefer my mom use taxis to work? Would that satisfy u people. Since she's so lazy and doesn't deserve any luxury."

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou said there was no investigation into the accident, but that an accident file had been opened.

Ndou said not all accidents warranted investigation.

Madonsela's spokeswoman Kgalalelo Masibi said she had no thoughts on the tweets.

"I am not on Twitter. I speak on behalf of the public protector and not her children," Masibi said.

She said she did not know if Madonsela had been given a new state vehicle or not.
