FREE State police shot dead a man after he broke into a shop in Thabong, Welkom, on Friday, spokesman Sergeant Tlalanyane Pakela said.
"The man was hit in the chest and died on the scene." Police were searching for his accomplice. Two officers responded to a call about a burglary at a shop in Mshenguville around 2.30am.
"They discovered the door of the shop was tampered with and the lock was broken, but nothing was taken." While they were investigating, two men ran out and hid themselves.
"As the police were searching for them, one suspect came at an officer with a knife," Pakela said.
"He acted before he could be killed by drawing his service pistol and firing one shot." - Sapa
