THE Eastern Cape public works department should intervene in a decision by the province's education department to collapse a number of proposed school construction tenders into one, the UDM said
"We find it worrisome that the department of public works ... appears to have been sidelined by the department of basic education," UDM spokesman Lennox Gaehler said.
He called on public works to use the Independent Development Trust to protect emerging contractors, who did not have the capacity to compete for such a large tender.
