Premier talks tough against fraud and corruption

NORTH West Premier Thandi Modise yesterday told the province's first round table discussion conference that corruption would have no place in her administration.

"These two days amplify the government's determination to give corruption no place to hide within the public service and all state entities as well as in business," she said.

Modise was speaking during the official opening of the conference in Rustenburg.

She said North West would show the way on how important networking was in the fight against fraud and corruption.

Her department, she said, had introduced projects ensuring that corruption and fraud confronting effective service delivery did not pose a direct threat to development.

"The survey on corruption in the South African business sector conducted by Business against Crime and Corruption is an indication of the acknowledgement of this emerging and disturbing trend.

"I have a message for such people today ... your time has expired, and you will be hunted down. If you were thinking of doing it, do not even start. We will deal with you, however slow our pace can be," she told the conference.

She further outlined the importance of building a coalition between civil society and the government.

"By coming together in a coalitions, stakeholders from government and civil society can coordinate their efforts and win this war against corruption."

The event was attended by representatives from the North West University, Anti-Corruption Forum and MECs from different departments.
