It was not me - actor

ACTOR Thabo Mnguni, popularly known as Bra Steve on SABC1's comedy series Family Bonds, denied he was arrested for drunk driving in Durban on Sunday morning

"It wasn't me," he said.

Police yesterday said their records showed that "a Thabo Mnguni" had been arrested during a routine Durban metro police roadblock at 2.20am on Sunday.

"The suspect was detained at Durban Central police station and was released on bail," police spokesperson Captain Kephu Ndlovu said.

He could not confirm whether the detained man was the actor, who also starred in a popular TV advertisement for a chicken fast food outlet.

"Our records show that a Thabo Mnguni was arrested. I cannot say if it was the actor or not. All I can say is what I see on our records," he said.

Mnguni said he was in Durban at the weekend and was in Kokstad yesterday.

"I am in Kokstad, so it is not me," he insisted.

Durban metro police spokesperson Eugene Msomi refused to confirm or deny the arrest.

"We do not name suspects before they appear in court," he said.

Ndlovu added that the weekend's roadblocks saw the highest number of drunk drivers arrested on a weekend that was not during the festive season or a public holiday.

"The roadblocks netted 24 motorists on Friday night and 56 more on Saturday, bringing the total number of motorists arrested to 80," he said.

Ndlovu could not confirm if the arrested man had appeared in court yesterday.
