A Free State nurse was hacked to death in the streets of Welkom this week by her ex-boyfriend.
Emily Mojabeng Tabo, 36, was killed around 6am on Tuesday, reportedly by her ex-boyfriend who had just been released from jail after serving five years for shooting and wounding another ex-girlfriend.
Tabo was on her way to work when he crashed into her car from behind, jumped out and started attacking her with the axe.
Police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng said she was almost beheaded in the attack.
The axe was brand-new, with its price tag still on.
The man sped off but his car got stuck in mud and he was arrested.
