Gospel artist shot dead by police

A MEMBER of KwaZulu-Natal-based gospel group, Ithemba, was shot dead by the police on Wednesday.

Sfiso Mzulwini was killed after he allegedly fired shots at the police, who wanted to arrest him for house robbery.

The police said yesterday that the man had been suspected of involvement in house robberies in the Umlazi area.

When they confronted him in the township, he allegedly refused to be arrested and instead fired shots at them.

The police fired back, seriously wounding him. He was taken to the nearby Prince Mshiyeni Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.

Mzulwini's killing has brought to two the number of gospel artists to be shot in the province within a week.

James Langa, a member of KwaMashu-based gospel group Avante, was shot at the township's busy shopping centre on Tuesday in a robbery-related incident.

Langa is recovering in hospital.
