NDABENI Community Trust in Langa Cape Town is spitting fire over a letter that they term a "fake" and demeaning to their trust.

The letter promises to pay the trust five thousand rand, if they sell the land that was given to them by the then minister of land affairs, Thoko Didiza in 2001.

The land was for the claimants of Ndabeni, who were forcibly removed to Langa township during the apartheid years.

A member of the trust, Zambiya Tukulu, said they could not trace the source of the letter but vowed to take it up with their lawyers.

"We believe that the people behind this letter own a huge consortium. They want to cash in on our people and make a profit of billions of rands at the expense of poor people," he said.

"They know our people are vulnerable and might be tempted to sell the land that was meant for their houses, but we are not going to budge," he said

Trust chairperson Kwanele Fesi said they distanced themselves from the letter that promises to pay people for land. He cautioned people to be wide awake and not fall for the trap.

There are 587 recognised claimants an an additional 151 brought in by the regional land claims commission.

There are claims of internal fights among members of the trust, allegedly caused by the availability of a lot of money.

It is said that prime land has already been identified and bought in Wingfield, near the Cape Town CBD.
