ANOTHER LIMPOPO TRAFFIC COP APPEARS IN COURT

ANOTHER Limpopo traffic officer is in big trouble with the law - he has been implicated in car theft, only a day after two colleagues were arrested on charges of accepting a bribe from a motorist.

ANOTHER Limpopo traffic officer is in big trouble with the law - he has been implicated in car theft, only a day after two colleagues were arrested on charges of accepting a bribe from a motorist.

Sowetan reported yesterday that two traffic officers, Ronald Mototoka, 27, and Henrietta Matsetela, 29, were currently out on R2000 bail each while investigations were continuing.

The two officers allegedly forced a motorist to fork out a R2500 bribe after they allegedly found him driving without a valid driver's licence last month. Their case was postponed to December 11.

In the latest incident the police were investigating the disappearance of a bakkie that was used as a tow vehicle in the Modimolle area when their investigations led them to a traffic officer.

The bakkie was allegedly stolen in Modimolle in October. It was found at the Lebombo border post near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga.

Two Mozambican nationals who were arrested in connection with the stolen bakkie, allegedly implicated the traffic officer.

The two, currently in holding cells at the Malelane police station, implicated Florest Beukes, a 41-year-old traffic officer based in Modimolle. Beukes was arrested on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Malesela Ledwaba said the two Mozambicans cooperated with the police and this led to Beukes' arrest.

He said Beukes appeared briefly in the Modimolle magistrate's court yesterday. His case was postponed to December 8.

"As police we will stop at nothing to bring perpetrators of any form of crime to book," Ledwaba said.
