trash talk fuels brawl

PROMOTERS Reggie Hilman and Gavin Hope have staged many a good fight at the Finetown Multipurpose Centre in Lenasia and fight fans have always responded positively.

This venue, which is situated south of Johannesburg, has become synonymous with wondrous and majestic fights.

Hilman and Hope's quest for fights that will linger in people's minds continues next Friday night. They have prepared six bouts that feature some of the country's rising stars.

Topping Future Boxing Promotion's bill is the grudge fight between Jasper "Jazzman" Seroka and Sipho "Tsunami" Taliwe, which is scheduled for 12 rounds.

Seroka's national junior lightweight belt will be at stake against the man he easily beat over six rounds on July 28 2006. This is an eagerly awaited fight. Trainer Gert Strydom said Seroka wished it was tomorrow.

Taliwe warned before he flattened Michael Modibeng in three rounds last month that Seroka must sleep with the belt because he would kiss it goodbye next week.

That set the tone for war, and war is exactly what his mentor Benny Pailman has promised.

But before Seroka and Taliwe collide another potential war of attrition takes place between Ronald Parks and Funisani Monta.

Their fight is over 10 rounds in the junior flyweight division. Parks has been around with no success since 2002. He has 10 losses, five wins and five draws. Parks has not won a fight since 2005.

Monta has made an impression since he turned professional last year, chalking up five wins. He stopped the vastly experienced Loyiso Ngantweni in three rounds at the same venue last month.

Meanwhile, Luyanda Jako and Ntuthuko Memela should provide fireworks in their junior welterweight six-rounder. Tickets will sell at R30 for adults and R10 for children.
