Murdered policeman case for next week

THE murder case against the estranged wife of a policeman who was killed six days before he officially divorced her was yesterday postponed to next Wednesday.

Sma Mhlongo and her three co-accused - boyfriend Bhekokwakhe Linda, self-confessed hired hitmen Wandile Mabanga and Mfana Khanyi - are charged with the murder of Inspector Dan Mhlongo of Wangu in Nyoni.

The four, who were arrested hours after the burial of Mhlongo, 42, appeared in the Eshowe regional court yesterday.

Mhlongo had been married to Sma, 32, and had two children.

The couple was no longer living together and was in the process of divorcing.

The breakthrough in the case came after the arrest of Linda, who led police to the hitmen who were nabbed at S'khawini.

Mabanga was found in possession of the weapon believed to have been used in the murder.

According to the police, Linda confessed that Sma had since last year asked him to get hitmen to kill Mhlongo.
