The training of volunteers for the Confederations Cup is moving to Rustenburg tomorrow with just over 800 residents participating.
They are part of the 4000 volunteers selected by the Local Organising Committee to serve in all the four Confederations Cup host cities in June.
Headed by Onke Mjo, the LOC's volunteer programme started the process of training volunteers in Johannesburg in March before moving to Tshwane in April.
Besides Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, the other matches will be played at Ellis Park (Johannesburg), Loftus (Tshwane) and Free State (Mangaung).
A total of 37408 South Africans had applied to serve as volunteers in this festival of championships scheduled for June 14 to 28.
They will assist in various operational areas like accreditation, administration, information technology, translations, transport, media, marketing and medical.
At some of the big global competitions like the Olympics and world championships in Athletics, professionals like doctors, accountants and lawyers also volunteer.
In 2005 at the World Championships in Athletics in Finland, Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene had a lawyer serving as his personal chauffer.
The LOC and Fifa announced early last year that for the eight nation Confederations Cup, they will only recruit South Africans.
But for the 2010 World Cup, plans are at an advanced stage to recruit just over 15 000 people from South Africa and across the globe.
