President Kgalema Motlanthe "has accepted" Deputy Foreign Minister Fatima Hajaig's apology for anti-Jewish comments she made last month.
"This government takes these comments quite seriously and hopes they will not be made by any member of the government again," government spokesman Themba Maseko told a media briefing at parliament yesterday.
At a Palestinian solidarity rally in Lenasia last month, Hajaig said "Jews control (the US), no matter which government comes into power, whether Republican or Democratic, whether Barrack Obama or George Bush."
