Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helped children of the Alma School and Angel Hotel to get acquainted with their new wheelchairs at the yearly Africa-wide Mormon Helping Hands Day.
Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints helped children of the Alma School and Angel Hotel to get acquainted with their new wheelchairs at the yearly Africa-wide Mormon Helping Hands Day.
It took place in Johannesburg at the weekend under the theme Bringing relief, building hope.
Fifteen wheelchairs were donated as part of a community development synergy with Jacaranda FM.
The radio station's listeners lent a collective helping hand. Catering for mentally and physically disabled children, the Alma School and Angel Hotel are among 20 South African charity organisations to benefit from this interdenominational nation-building exercise. Six welfare groups and homes across Africa also benefitted.
The church also marked the launch by giving blankets, hygiene kits and baby formula to the Central Methodist Church, which houses about 4000 Zimbabwean refugees. - Victor Mecoamere
