Ephraim Pop Molefe Pooe of 2336 Nakene Street, Orlando East, Soweto, was a humble man born in a humble family.
So said Mpho Pooe-Mohlala after the news of the death of her uncle, who died on Sunday at the Helen Joseph Hospital.
"My uncle was both an estate agent and an auctioneer," said Pooe-Mohlala.
He leaves behind three sons, a brother and sister.
He was the eldest child of David Pooe, the first black man to own a supermarket in Soweto.
He was born in the famous Good Street in Sophiatown in 1948.
Forced removals by the apartheid government saw the family move to Orlando East in 1955, where they opened numerous businesses, including shops and filling stations.
He will be buried today at Croesus Cemetery at 11:30am.
The service, at the St John Anglican Church in Orlando East, starts at 9:30am.
