Cosas wants guards at risky schools

The Kwazulu-Natal Congress of South African Students (Cosas) yesterday threatened to bring learning to a standstill when schools re-open next week.

The Kwazulu-Natal Congress of South African Students (Cosas) yesterday threatened to bring learning to a standstill when schools re-open next week.

Cosas warned the provincial education department that it would "not be fooled by their late intervention" to provide 3000 security guards at high-risk schools.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) said it would support the pupils.

Schools in the province closed for the mid-year holidays on a sad note when a female teacher was shot and killed on school premises on the last day of term.

Earlier, a teacher was shot dead on the North Coast. - Sne Masuku
