The recently launched Sprite Hip Hoop Basketball Tour will be at the Moletsane sports grounds in Soweto tomorrow from 10am to 5pm.

This is a community development programme which focuses on elevating youth culture through basketball, music and poetry.

The tour started on May 19 and has already been to Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Organisers announced yesterday that hip-hop outfit Skwatta Kamp will round off the day tomorrow.

Khosi Masondo of the sponsors said it was crucial for them, while creating awareness of their brand, to also ensure that they plough back to the community.

"Children today have big dreams and they need assurance that these are worth pursuing. Winners from the basketball tournament will attend a coaching clinic conducted by NBA players and coaches."

Talented singers could also get their big break as they "will be part of the street-mixed tape endorsed and produced by Ventilation Productions, thus ensuring that they will be exposed and hopefully signed up", said Masondo.

A three-on-three tournament will take place tomorrow and winners will be invited to the Sprite Elite Invitational Camp that will take place next month.

Ten players chosen there will take part in the Basketball without Borders developmental programme in September. This global basketball development and community outreach programme promotes leadership, education, sportsmanship and healthy living.
