Metro FM's Refiloe Mpakanyane launches book drive

Metro FM News-Reader & co-host of afternoon drive; TouchDown Refiloe Mpakanyane will today launch her annual book drive in a bid to encourage more reading amongst youth.

In its second year, the book drive will this year focus on four schools on the East Rand/ Ekurhuleni area as well as a crèche.

“I am passionate about books and reading. Life cannot be complete without books. I want to contribute to the great work that SA National Books and others are doing revive the passion for books and literature within young people of East Rand. This small but dynamic metro has played such an interesting role during the struggle and really is so often overlooked,” says Mpakanyane.

The radio personality’s book drive coincides with and is in support of the South African National Book Week.

The launch which takes place at East Rand Value Mall McDonalds from 11:00 today will include activities such as Storytelling for toddlers, Hip hop performances, poetry performance and a spellathon.

Mpakanyane will also deliver a keynote speech outlining the future of the book drive.

Books drop-off Days: 17th and 18th September at 2 beneficiary schools each day

There will also be a free On-site eye testing mobile lab on each day at a visited beneficiary school. Learners will have their eyes tested, have lenses cut and installed in frames on site.

Through this book drive, learners from various schools will receive library books on behalf of their schools.
