DUKES Grill Lounge in Kempton Park has taken decent adult entertainment to a new classy level since arriving in the airport city three years ago.

It incorporates several facets including a restaurant, bar and outside and indoors lounging.

The interior is spacious and designed in a way to allow dancing close to where you are seated.

The added benefit is freedom to choose where to sit.

Some like to lounge in illuminated areas close to the bar or walkways, while others prefer to be in dimly lit corners or in the VIP lounge.

When Sowetan visited on a Saturday night , patrons were dancing - mostly to mid-tempo house tunes - while some chatted or text ed.

"Texting about the fun the people are having here seems to be a favourite activity," said manager Bhekani Ndlovu.

"We are happy with that because it helps promote the place. We see postings on Twitter and other social networks about Dukes. It's clear people love it here."

Judging by the happy faces of neatly dressed and well-behaved clients, Kempton Park has found a popular venue to unwind.

Dukes is owned by MTN executive and entrepreneur Themba Nyathi, and also has a branch in Sunnyside, Pretoria .

"Plans to open the third branch in Polokwane are under way. I can't say much now, but Dukes [Nyathi's nickname] will reveal all the details in due course," said Ndlovu. He proudly added that the Kempton Park lounge attracted "top people".

"We have professionals [and] other upward-thinking people here all the time, and we attract top DJs." They've had Glen Lewis of Metro FM rock the place.

Judging by the chat I had with another patron, Thapelo, who only gave Sowetan his name, Dukes attracts people from far and wide.

"I live in Boksburg, but I chill here. My mates are mostly in Pretoria, but we always find a way to meet here," said Thapelo, who is originally from Rustenburg.

Another patron, Matthew, originally from Thokoza in Alberton, said: "I come here to network. I am a civil servant so I come here to meet entrepreneurs from whom I get business ideas."

The venue can be booked for private and corporate occasions, but unannounced arrivals of groups of friends is also accommodated whenever possible, Ndlovu said.

Its extensive menu can be viewed online on the establishment's website.

In its marketing material, the lounge describes itself as a "cost-effective spot to socialise and unwind in freestyle ... outside seating [offers] the perfect place to enjoy your meal, drink, party, meeting, watch the world as the African sun sets".

Dukes Grill Lounge is situated at Kempton Place on Pretoria Road opposite the civic centre.
