I‘m an old man, I cannot possibly be sexy: Isibaya's 'Fezile'

Sexy, hunky model and actor Andile Mxakaza, most popular for his prominent role as Fezile on Isibaya says he is not about the limelight.

Sowetan LIVE catches up with the actor on set whilst shooting Isibaya.

Andile Mxakaza is a very soft spoken and gentle person in real life, very different from his character Fezile who is bold and a fighter.

Being humble despite all the perfection is something that makes him so much more than he is.

Mxakaza says, “a true actor always stays humble, they remain who they are even when people see them in a different light,”

“I am trying to stay away from the limelight, I love what I do as an actor but I do enjoy a normal life where I get to walk around in shorts and not get the attention.”

Recently nominated as one of Mzansi’s Sexiest 2014 men, he says he feels old but there is nothing wrong with being seen as sexy.

“I‘m an old man, I cannot possibly be sexy. When you reach 35 you feel like sexy is young. Somehow I always end up in these competitions. I was on Cosmo’s Sexiest also. It's funny that I have never been nominated for these things when I used to model. Now when my life is on a different journey, the nominations come pouring in. But it is lovely to know that people find me sexy,” he says.

Sadly though, he did not make it to Top 24.

Mxakaza made his first television appearance in 2008 on SABC1‘s drama series Zone 14 playing Sgonondo, a character opposite his latest role.

“Acting wasn’t anything I’ve dreamt of doing. It fell into my arms unexpectedly. I worked as a sports trainer and was coaching Tony Kgoroge. He asked me to try our for a role on Zone 14 because I had the body for the character they needed.

Fezile’s mean character is about to turn around when love hits him hard.

“Fezile has found love with Qondi, the typical Zulu romance. I love the scene where I ask her out the Zulu way. Our love is out of respect and it’s gentle. It’s an interesting scene,” he says.
