Build our country through diligence and frugality

Freedom day should be modest and prudent to guard against arrogance and rashness, and serving people’s heart and soul.

On April 27 South Africans will be celebrating 19 years of democracy after ANC led government took the ruins of power from apartheid regime. These freedoms must have conquering spirit and determined to vanquish all enemies never yield.

No matter what the difficulties and hardship, so long as a single man remains, he will fight on. It is a day that gives full play to our style of fighting courage in battle, no fear of sacrifice, no fear of fatigue and continuous fighting for National Democratic Revolution.

Thousands upon thousands of martyrs have heroically laid down their lives for the people; let us hold their banner high and march ahead along the path crimson with their blood. The cadres of the movement like Solomon Mahlangu, Chris Hani and OR Tambo resolute, fear no sacrifice and surmount every difficulty to win the revolution. At a critical moment in the progress of liberation armies. Treacherous and reactionary policies of Verwoerd regime adopted massacres to wreck the national united front of South Africans.

Freedom day should be modest and prudent to guard against arrogance and rashness, and serving people’s heart and soul. The organs of state must practice democratic centralism and rely on the masses and their personnel must serve people. What are some of the key principle we need to keep in mind in addressing the nation of state, an issue that has occupied the mind of revolutionaries over the centuries?

The approach is premised on the understanding that the state is a class instrument to pursue and defend class rule and class interest. However in the 18 Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte, Marx and Engels do argue that the state, as superstructural phenomenon, can enjoy some autonomy from the economic base or from the main classes- an observation that is of relevance to understand some of the development state in the 20 century. State power was further developed by Antonio Gramsci , especially in terms of emphasizing that the state is not just a coercive force (‘’dictatorship’’ taken literally); but also a cohesive force. In this sense it should be able to exercise ideological hegemony in society.

From this point of view one can argue that element of democracy is in fact achievements of human civilization. This applies to such freedoms as those of speeches, association, and the media and so on. In this view, one of the deficiencies of living socialism-partly imposed by the conduct of counter-revolution was precisely this reluctance to allow the human spirit free reign. With the emphasis on the notion of dictatorship of the proletariat the tendency developed to interpret this too literally. This in fact against Marxism. For, in the same manner as they spoke of dictatorship of the proletariat Marx and others also referred to bourgeoisie democracy as a ‘dictatorship of the bourgeoisie.

In emphasizing the reality of class rule, they were not arguing against individual freedoms. In fact they insisted that workers rule would entail both institutional and human freedoms that would be profound than had hitherto existed.

In this regard to the socialist revolution, of course we have to develop productive forces in the form of systems, to defend our revolution from rivals that want to contest ANC alliance in next election. This has huge demands on the cadres to drive for transformation, to resist pulling of the negative tendencies deriving from the system they seek to bury. Production relations of NDR have to consciously by the victorious forces that constitute the national liberation movement. First you have to attain state power.
