RADIO 2000 has been wowing its listeners with some celebrity power in celebration of Women's Month.
This marks a milestone in the history of Women's Day in South Africa, which is celebrated on August 9 to commemorate the national march of women in 1956 to petition against legislation that required African women to carry the pass book.
Last Wednesday, the station drove social networking pages into a frenzy after SABC group CEO Lulama Mokhobo joined Radio 2000's breakfast show, The Morning Joy, hosted by Justice Ramohlola and Nthateng Lerata.
On Thursday, Mokhobo was followed by SABC CFO Gugu Duda. But it was actress Sophie Ndaba who left listeners titillated and in stitches.
Ndaba, who kept on changing her personality from Queen to Sophie, left the station's phone lines in a frenzy.
Radio 2000 programmes manager Bongi Magudulela told Sowetan that received many good responses from listeners about the idea.
"Listeners are calling in to say they want the people we hosted back. We are very happy with the response."
Magudulela added that the station would have different female South African celebrities throughout this month.
She said the decision was made after realising the importance of celebrating and acknowledging the women that inspires and built up the society in communities.
She said the show would be hosting Gauteng Premier Nomvula "Mama Action" Mokonyane tomorrow.
Other celebrities that are coming are TV presenter Bonang Matheba, musician Winnie Khumalo, Motswako show host Penny Lebyane and SABC2's Morning Livepresenter Leanne Manas, to name a few.
Radio 2000 station manager Carlito Sheik said: "It is important to highlight the achievements of women and how far we have come as women in society.
"These celebrities are positive role models to the young and old and we look forward to hearing what they will bring to Radio 2000 listeners."
