SA designer's big moment...

FASHION sensation Paledi Segapo of PALE Homme is about to put South African fashion on the map, when he showcases at the Trends Kenya Fashion Festival on Saturday.

Segapo will display the Spring Summer 2012 collection he showed this year at the SA Fashion Week.

Segapo, who dresses the likes of rappers Proverb, AKA, actor Vusi Kunene, and Kaizer Chiefs star Siphiwe Tshabalala, is the only South African fashion designer who has been invited to showcase at this prestigious event.

 The event is aimed at showcasing emerging and established creative talents festival, now in its third year, has evolved rapidly to become one of the greatest fashion extravaganzas in eastern Africa.

It is believed that the fashion industry in Kenya is not only growing fast but it is also a major contributor to private sector growth.

Segapo will feature with heavyweight designers that include Tanzania's Ally Rehmtullah, award winning US-based fashion designer Estelle Ogbonna, John Kaveke, Sonu Sharma, Kenya's Niku Channa, India's Anita Dongre and France-based Severine Devailly.

"I am very proud to be showcasing in an event of this magnitude. This is a good platform for my label because my designs will be exposed to top international fashion consumers and buyers," Segapo says.

The show will be shown live on Kenya's digital channel with an expected viewership of at least 3million.

"I must admit I am ecstatic to be invited to showcase in Kenya. As South African designers I feel we are capable of making clothes that not only look impeccable but also meet consumer expectations.

"Our workmanship continues to evolve and certainly meets international standards," he says.

Segapo says big international events such as this one can help grow small brands.

"Opportunities such as this help to attract investors and stimulates business growth. As a designer you have to be an all-rounder. You have to attract the right people in your business to invest in it to enable one to grow," he says.

This is an addition to Segapo's many accolades. He holds a master's of business in leadership with a dissertation on Fashion Growth Strategies in South Africa and recently won the Creative Professional of the Year 2012 award in the iKusasa awards.

He works closely with the Mr South Africa office as a stylist and brand activator. and has been a Miss SA judge for the past three years.
