World's first Ferrari theme park opens in Abu Dhabi today
A 4-D Fantasy Ride will today launch at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
The ride promises to make you feel what it's like to "dive into the deepest oceans, speed across the desert on an Arabian horse or blast through icy caves and up to the mouth of a fiery volcano".
This state-of-the-art ride is called Speed of Magic and takes families on an incredible journey into fantasy environments, where they join a young boy in his adventures chasing 'Nello', a mischievous character who jumps out of a video game and steals the keys to his father's Ferrari.
It's one of many unique attractions set to open at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi today (27 October 2010).
"Speed of Magic is possibly the most innovative interpretation of Ferrari in the world. We have put a face to the Ferrari personality - one which both children and adults can relate to," Andy Keeling, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi Park Manager, said in a statement.
Throughout the ride, passengers will experience extremes of temperature, moisture, light and movement, as they interact with a variety of spectacular environments, adding a 4th dimension to the concave 3-D projection screens, designed to completely immerse the guest in the action.
"The 4-D environment in Speed of Magic generates a unique feeling and the ability to add to this by controlling the ambience means this attraction will be one of the most popular inside Ferrari World Abu Dhabi," he said.
The character of Nello is loosely based on a colourful personality in Ferrari's rich history, Tazio Nuvolari, affectionately known as Il Mantovano Volante (The Flying Mantuan). Nuvolari raced for Ferrari in the 1930s, and it was his unique story that inspired Ferrari World Abu Dhabi to create this ride.
Altogether, the world's first Ferrari theme park will host over 20 state-of-the-art attractions, each designed to bring various facets of the Ferrari story to life.
Featured attractions include:
• The world's fastest rollercoaster, reaching speeds of up to 240 km/h, emulating the feeling of being in a Ferrari F1 car
• G-force experience taking passengers on an adrenaline-pumping ride up over 62m, through the roof and back down again
• State-of-the-art racing simulators as those used by the Ferrari racing team
• Flume ride journey through the heart of a Ferrari 599 engine
• Driving and Racing school for junior drivers, with expert training, and
• Aerial voyage 'over Italy' following a Ferrari.
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is billed as the world's largest indoor theme park. It is located on Yas Island, which is situated 30 minutes and 50 minutes respectively from Abu Dhabi and Dubai Marina.
The Yas Marina Circuit hosted the 2009 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
