Golf day helps poor students

Bid to help Limpopo student trust fund

FORMER students and friends of the University of Limpopo Student Trust Fund inaugural fundraising Golf Day will be present at the Polokwane Golf Club on Friday.

Initiated by the students representative council of 1995 to 1996, the fund has contributed significantly to needy, academically deserving, rural students pursuing careers in management, health, agriculture, medicine and the natural sciences.

Thrills and spills, all aimed at ensuring a better and brighter future for South Africa's future leaders, are expected in a four ball better ball tournament (two against two), at R4000 a game and an individual points system at R1000 a game.

Donations should be made to the University of Limpopo Student Trust, Standard Bank, account number: 011152923, (cheque account). E-mail proof of payment to Bridget Kutumela at bridget@bridgetk.co.za or fax to 086-617-6748.

Two related University of Limpopo Student Trust Fund-organised events will be held in October and November.

These are the inaugural Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture, which takes place at the University of the North in Mankweng on October 14, and the yearly Onkgopotse Tiro Benefit Gala Dinner and Onkgopotse Tiro Excellence Awards, which takes place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng, on November 5.

The events are all designed to keep alive the legacy of Tiro, an unflinching black consciousness movement adherent.

  • Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation are the University's media, publicity and nation-building partners.
