Comedy Central on DStv drops Gareth Cliff show

The Gareth Cliff show will no longer be aired on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) after simulcast of internet radio show broadcast flops.

Teeveetee.blogspot.com reported that the show which launched just a month-and-half-ago will end on Monday 30 June 2014.

Blogger Thinus Ferreira added that Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN Africa) which runs Comedy Central launched the Gareth Cliff in May on Comedy Central, but moved it to an earlier timeslot  (from 07:35 to 06:00) early June in a desperate attempt to lift viewership figures.

The move did not lift the show’s ratings enough however, which Ferraira said led to Comedy Central dropping it.

Rina Broomberg, co-founder of CliffCentral.com was quoted in mybroadband.co.za saying that it was a mutual decision.

“CliffCentral.com and WeChat seem to be pulling bigger numbers than Comedy Central”, she added.
