Largest bird on the planet

OF THE 8600 bird species on our planet, the ostrich is the biggest.

It also stands out for being a flightless bird - in other words, it is unable to fly.

It can stand up to 3m high and weigh up to 160kg.

An ostrich egg, which is the biggest bird egg in the world, can weigh about 630g.

These huge birds can live for 70 years, though a lifespan of 50 years is more common.
